NOx REDUCTION SYSTEMS

Nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are among the leading causes of acid rain and smog; their control is a primary objective of environmental regulation. With new legislation increasing the pressure on utilities and heavy industry to reduce NOx Levels, many will find Wahlco's SNRS an economic and effective solution. Its field-proven, patented application gives Wahlco a substantial competitive advantage.

Wahlco's SNRS delivers several benefits besides cost. First, its modular design permits phased implementation where elements may be applied to meet current requirements, then easily expanded to meet more stringent future requirements.

Second, structural modifications are minimal compared with other technologies because of Wahlco's advanced design. Since our components fit into existing configurations, there is no need to add large separate modules.

Third, and perhaps most important for the customer, installation can take place during a normal scheduled outage, eliminating costly extended downtime.

Flexible and Cost-Effective Methods to Meet NOx Emission Regulations Now ... and In the Future

NH3 System

The problem is familiar to anyone in the power generation industry: How to comply with current emission control standards in a cost-effective manner while anticipating future regulations.

The Wahlco Staged NOx Reduction System (SNRS) presents a unique solution to this dilemma: a systematic approach to reducing nitrogen oxides which permits greater efficiencies to be implemented later on, as future regulations "ratchet" permissible NOx emission rates lower.

A Three Step Approach

The Wahlco SNRS uses both selective non-catalytic reduction (SNCR), and selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technologies. Two separate SCR systems are employed, one using an in-duct stationary catalyst, and one using a patented air heater catalyst system.
